Sana taps Avanti satellite to deliver Ka-band Internet on satellite in Libya

Libyan businesses and government organizations will be able to access critical Ka-band satellite broadband services through local satellite provider Sana, which will leverage capacity on the Hylas 2 satellite operated by Avanti Communications.

According to a statement by Aimen Sabkha, spokesman for Sana, satellite broadband will help Libya rejoin the international community. Sabkha explained that the Company optimizes its satellite services using flexible Ka-band technology from Avanti.

Sana creates fast, reliable, and secure satellite communications networks for large enterprises and domestic consumers alike. Its satcom services can support Libya’s economic growth by linking consumers together and improving the efficiency of businesses.

Libya is saddled with one of the lowest rates in North Africa and the Middle East. A mere 5.5 percent of the population can access the Internet, and the available speeds are the slowest in the region.

However, Sana predicts that the consumer, oil and gas, and government sectors will spur a growth in demand for Internet, television, radio, and other applications in Libya. And when that surge takes place, the Company will be ready to offer its high-speed Internet on satellite services.

In addition, Sana is anticipating a demand for backhaul support services once Libya has improved its fiber infrastructure.
